Mitch Tuchman began his career at Atari and spent the first half of his career a Silicon Valley software entrepreneur when he sold two start-ups during the dot-com period. He then entered investment management with Apex Capital where he oversaw a $200 million technology portfolio, co-managed its venture capital fund and served as a director of four Nasdaq companies as an activist investor. He observed the commission-based broker model pervasive in the financial services industry resulting in most investors suffering poor returns and saw an opportunity to use technology to lower costs and emulate the best practices on sophisticated endowments such as Yale and Harvard, founding the first robo-adviser, MarketRiders in 2008. Recognizing that robo-advisers needed a human touch, in 2012 he partnered with Scott Puritz to form Rebalance. Today, Rebalance manages $800 million in client assets. Tuchman received his B.S. at Boston University and MBA from the Harvard Business School.

Are You Beating the Market or is the Market Beating You?

Many investors are drawn to the excitement of picking individual stocks, but the hard truth is that consistently beating the market is exceedingly rare. In this talk, Mitch will explore whether your investing is truly building wealth, or if it is simply an expensive form of entertainment. Attendees will come away with a clearer understanding of how the evidence overwhelmingly favors simple, low cost index investing over do-it-yourself market timing or stock selection. This is a sobering, practical discussion designed to help individual investors focus on what really matters for long term financial success.

Attend this talk and learn…
  • Why beating the market has become so difficult over the past 50 years
  • How most investors fail to properly measure and benchmark their success
  • The behavioral biases that most often trip up individual investors
  • What it means to take a sober, realistic look at how your results compare to the indices
